Jemma C grew up in West Virginia and Virginia but moved to Jackson in 2015 to work at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. After graduating from West Virginia University in 2003, she moved to Massachusetts where she completed a master’s degree in applied behavior analysis from Northeastern University while working to treat and educate children with developmental disabilities and severe challenging behavior. She then returned to West Virginia University to earn her doctorate in psychology and behavior analysis before accepting a post-doctoral position at UMMC. At UMMC she currently works on several projects conducting research in the areas of behavioral pharmacology, substance abuse, and the effects of living with HIV. Since coming to Jackson, she has become more active in volunteer activities to provide science education to children, protect reproductive and women’s health, raise awareness of issues faced by the LGBTQ+ community, and most recently, deliver needed aid to those affected by or at-risk during the COVID-19 crisis.
